Liver Enhancing Cleanse

It’s pretty simple. For 3 weeks eat as much veggies as you can. Ok so there’s a little more to it than that.

If you can’t do it all at once (I don’t blame you, I still have a bit of coffee here and there), just try cutting out a few items at a time and make the cleanse last longer until you can go 3 weeks without cheating. Honestly, I feel a lot lighter and am more mindful of what I am eating.

It is probably going to be harder if you don’t cook your own meals but just make sure to pack your lunch for work or school.

The first few days are the toughest cause if you are an avid coffee drinker like myself, you’ll feel a little dizzy and grumpy but you just need to stay hydrated and go to bed early!

After finishing week one, I feel like I have less cravings and more control over my eating. You’ll start to purposely avoid putting toxic things in your body like saturated fats and sugars.

If you want to learn more about it get Eric Berg’s book called The 7 Principles of Fat Burning and it’ll go into more detail on how this cleanse affects  your liver and makes it easier to digest and activate all your other important organs.

Let me know how it goes! Oh and don’t forget to drink the cranberry juice concoction 3 times a day before every meal!

  • 1 cup water
  • 1/4 cup 100% cranberry juice (nothing added!)
  • 1 teaspoon lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon apple vinegar

It’s sour but you’ll eventually like it 🙂

Garlic, Salsa and Squash oh my!

Today = leftovers day.

That word doesn’t have to make you cringe anymore though! I kinda get excited now to see what concoction I will come up with each week.

This week’s featured leftovers are:

  • Spaghetti squash that has been sitting, uncooked, on my counter for over 2 weeks
  • Plain tomato sauce
  • Salsa
  • Wilting basil
  • Oldish garlic

Solution? Mix ’em all together and see what happens!

Favorite salsa ever! - Thank you Trader Joe's!

I made a simple, yet tasty pasta sauce with garlic, tomato sauce, salsa and basil. I cut the squash in half and baked it in 2 inches of water at 400 F for 40 minutes (got the cooking method from one of my favorite blogs: Oh She Glows). When it was ready, I took the seeds out and scrapped the spaghetti-looking squash into a bowl. This were going quite well until I spilled the boiling water from the squash onto my leg. I survived.

Final step was to pour the sauce on the squash and VOILA! Not only do you have a delicious meal that prevented you from throwing things away, but it is also very low in calories and super healthy!! For one cup of spaghetti squash (42 calories) + 1/2 cup of sauce (50 calories, depending on your tomato sauce base) = less than 100 calories!!! NO JOKE!

Hasta Proxima

Aurevoir famille Norton! They all flew out today and have made it home safely.

I just had a crazy long day. Woke up at 5:45am to make it to the Matrix Yoga class (the one where you hang upside down on straps on he wall), then went to lululemon for an hour training session followed by my usual 9:30-5pm job at The Party Goddess. But wait, there’s more! I then proceeded to go to a Power Yoga class at 5:45pm until 7:15pm followed by a quick stop at lululemon to pick up a shirt. Finally made it home at 8:15pm, made dinner (broccoli, zucchini and tuna. I know, very plain!) and am now sitting comfortably in bed trying to avoid excessive movements.

Might I mention that all this had to be done while living up to my Daily Challenge of: no treats whatsoever, except fruit!

It was going well until….I found a dreaded PEPPERMINT in my purse and ate it without even realizing! I confessed to Erin and had to do 20 sit-ups as a punishment. Here is proof:

Big day tomorrow. At 8:30 am the Pasalus (Pasadena lululemon peeps) are meeting for a crazy fun training session at CATZ . Seriously, it is TONS of fun! I’ll try to get pics. Then I work 10-6pm but I know we’ll have a blast, followed by the “back-again-by-popular-request” Pasalu’s…..WINE NIGHT III!! It’s pretty self-explanatory. I will try to document that one as well.

Erin made up for her failed challenge yesterday by doing some push-ups. Nice work!

Tomorrow’s challenges:

E-wall’s: consume 1500 mg or LESS of sodium. Did you know the average american consumes 4000 mg/day!!! Try to calculate how much you actually take in in one day, you’ll be surprised!

G-Nort’s: do 10 push ups every hour regardless of where I am (curtesy of Kevin, Erin’s bf. Yikes!) Time frame: 10am-6pm = total of 80 push ups!!

I think we need a reward every 3 or 6 months for the person who actually lives up to her challenges, what do you think? I need ideas and it has to be something easy to send in the mail from Ottawa to LA and vice-versa!

Challenged!

That’s right we are challenged. Erin and I that is. In order to help us realize our New Year’s Resolution that include exercising more and eating better, we decided to give each other daily challenges. We’re still trying to think of a cool name but basically, each morning we will give the other person a challenge for the day. At the end of the day we will write a short blog about what the challenge was, whether or not we accomplished it, what some of our struggles were, etc.

For example, my challenge for today from Erin is “no fried food or drinks other than water”. This is tough because I am going to Universal Studios with the family again and healthy options are hard to find!

Mine for Erin is to do an upper body workout that using dumbbells that I found on Youtube. She hurt her ankle last weekend so this will be a good start, and most of us could use some more upper body strength anyways!

I’d also like to mention that we are holding each other accountable from over 8000 km away! Erin currently lives in Ottawa, Canada and I am in Los Angeles, California. This is definitely the ultimate challenge!
